The AMS Weather Band is an initiative of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). It is a global community of enthusiasts committed to advancing our understanding and appreciation of weather.  Members of the Weather Band are weather hobbyists, science teachers, retirees, nature photographers, storm chasers, weather experts, and more—all learning, discussing, and sharing their love of weather.  The Weather Band offers to its members exclusive benefits that are completely separate from those of AMS membership, benefits that include original content, curated news stories, online events, and a discussion forum to fuel its members' desire for weather knowledge.

As stated in the Society’s mission statement, the AMS is a scientific and professional organization committed to advancing weather, water, and climate science and service.  Its members include nearly 12,000 professionals, students, and others who share knowledge, improve technology, and disseminate science to ensure that our planet can thrive. Learn more about joining the AMS as a Society member.

Of course!  The Weather Band is for anyone who is fascinated with the wide range of phenomena we see in the atmosphere, from casual weather observer to weather expert.

Recordings of past webinars may be viewed by active Weather Band members at any time.  Webinars are typically posted to the Weather Band website within 1-2 days of the live event.

If you are interested in contributing content to be featured on the AMS Weather Band website or online community, you can submit a description of the piece you would like to submit here.

Because such events are designed for broadcasters, forecasters, or other professional meteorologists, AMS Weather Band members are not entitled to registration discounts for AMS conferences, short courses, or other events specifically designed for the professional members of AMS.

However, as a member of the Weather Band, you get a whole host of your own exciting perks and membership benefits!

If you think that the professional society may be a better fit, feel free to explore those options and join today.
