A Windstorm Resilience Success Story: The IBHS FORTIFIED Home Program
December 3, 2021 at 11:00am Eastern Time
This webinar explores perhaps one of the least known but most successful windstorm mitigation programs in the United States, the IBHS FORTIFIED Home Program. We will explore the origins of the program and how decades of wind engineer research was applied to create a practical way to build better for both new homes and retrofits. This webinar will also look at the real-world performance of FORTIFIED homes during North Carolina hurricanes of 2016-2020 and during Hurricane Sally in 2020, as well as how other state building codes have nearly reached FORTIFIED Gold Protection. Successes using the same model on commercial construction as well as outreach resources that help home-buyers and builders make informed decisions for their next homes will also be presented.
