A few events to look forward to on weather, weather research, and observation trainings:

Become a Citizen Scientist

March 4, 7:00-8:00 PM EST

Join the National Weather Service Boston Office for an overview of how to get involved with weather and citizen science initiatives. This is focused on New England, but many of the opportunities apply across the country. You can also contact your local forecasting office for special initiatives in your area, or see below for ongoing events.

Celebrate Women in the Sciences!

March 8, 5:00-6:30 PM EST

The AMS Board on Representation, Accessibility, Inclusion, and Diversity and the Earth Science Women's Network are holding a joint virtual event to celebrate women in the sciences. The keynote speaker is Dr. Kandis Boyd, Deputy Director of NOAA's Office of Weather and Air Quality.

Take a Flight to the Thermosphere and Ionosphere

March 31, 7:00-8:30 EDT

The NCAR Explorer Series will take a look at the thermosphere and ionosphere at the transition zone from the Earth’s atmosphere to outer space. They have important functions in the Earth system and for human society. This region is where the commercial space flights of Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin will take passengers to experience zero gravity, and where the International Space Station and SpaceX Starlink satellites orbit.

In this NCAR Explorer Series lecture, Dr. Liying Qian talks about space weather and space climate, and how scientists study the impact that they could have on space technology and space assets on which we increasingly rely.

Ongoing

Join the CoCoRaHS network!

Citizen scientists are needed to join the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network. Observers collect data that is critical for forecasting, weather research, and much more. All you need to get started is a rain gauge and a love of weather.

Become a Weather Spotter

Check your local forecast office for upcoming Skywarn Trainings. If you don't have one scheduled, you can take the virtual course through MetEd.

Looking Ahead

Get ready for the Safe Place Selfie Campaign! It's coming your way in April.
