The 51st Annual Conference on Broadcast Meteorology was recently held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Along with a handful of other broadcast meteorologists, Jeremy Lewan from WNEP in Scranton, Pennsylvania enrolled in an AMS Short Course, in which TV meteorologists received an immersive (literally and figuratively!) education to understand coastal dangers, and how to interpret coastal water and weather conditions effectively. The course was taught by Bruckner Chase, who has served as a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Weather Service expert on beach and coastal safety, working internationally in coastal safety, science, and conservation.

Jeremy has his own segment on WNEP called Jeremy’s Journeys, and in this installment, Jeremy breaks down the best practices to keep you safe on your next trip down the shore!

Did you know that there are other types of dangerous currents besides rip currents? Watch to find out more, and to raise your “Blue IQ,” or your knowledge of what’s going on at the beach.
