“I would encourage students to ask their professors that are around them. They might traditionally see their professors in a classroom, but it’s possible or highly likely that they are working on research outside of the classroom and outside of that very specific scheduled time that they see them. So ask them, ‘What do you work on? What do you research?’ Ask them, ‘What does a career as a research scientist look like?’ Or even more generally, ‘What are the different pathways?’ Just ask questions and be curious and see if you can uncover what different career paths look like.”
