The California Sky Watcher by William Selby

As an AMS member spanning four decades, I am sharing recent research and resources that should attract and inform anyone interested in California’s weather and climate. I’ve spent a lifetime observing our changing weather patterns, following my curiosity to learn more about meteorology, and sharing my natural science discoveries. After several years in private industry and teaching college prep school science courses, I enjoyed a rewarding career teaching in the Earth Science Department at Santa Monica College and a few UC classes. My wide variety of courses included atmospheric science each semester and field classes designed to apply what we were learning in our classrooms and laboratories. I recently retired (after more than 35 years), but passion continues driving this labor of love.

Here's where you come in. We are sharing a colorful and informative website that includes California weather stories and updates from each season. Surf through our stories and enjoy learning about the latest from the Golden State. You might even want to contribute some of your discoveries to our website in the form of stories, images, or links to other research. My most recent project, California Sky Watcher: Understanding Weather Patterns and What Comes Next, a Heyday publication, will appear in July. In this new book, you will find colorful, informative, and engaging science stories carrying through each season, reminding us why we developed such fascination for weather science. We’re connecting fellow sky watchers!
