A Note from Gideon

Welcome to the January/February issue of On The Radar! January 2023 was so busy and exciting, we waited to bring you the latest news! We’ve been busy planning some very compelling webinars, organizing the , and of course preparing for and attending the American Meteorological Society’s !

As a first-time attendee of the Annual Meeting, I was both excited and a little nervous. I had heard from colleagues that this was one of the most important events in the meteorological community, and I was eager to immerse myself in all things weather-related.

Most of my time was split between connecting with attendees while working in the AMS Resource Center in the exhibit hall and attending committee meetings, but I heard much about the many interesting sessions that were offered and the latest advances in meteorology, including new techniques for forecasting and understanding weather patterns, as well as the impact of climate change on the earth's atmosphere and oceans. The conference schedule was packed with plenary sessions, oral presentations, and poster sessions, providing attendees with a wide range of information to peruse and absorb.

Attending the meeting was a special experience for me as a new member of the AMS. I came away with a deeper understanding of the field and the extent to which weather and climate have an impact on our world. I also made valuable connections with other attendees and professionals in the field, and I look forward to staying in touch and continuing to learn from them.

Keep an eye on our website because later this spring, we will be featuring some of the Annual Meeting presentations that are sure to be of interest to the Weather Band Community. In the meantime, have a look at what else we have for you in this issue of On the Radar…
