Offshore storms, including hurricanes, can bring about rip currents, large waves, and quickly changing conditions at the same time that beaches are reducing or ending their lifeguard coverage for the season. Renowned beach safety expert Bruckner Chase will highlight how to stay safe when enjoying the surf this fall season, including updated safety messaging from his work with NOAA. He will also discuss drowning statistics for 2024 and the difficulty of documenting the extent of beach hazards.
