The 1938 Hurricane - September 21, 1938 - impacted Long Island and New England with devastating winds, deadly storm surge, and significant freshwater flooding. Over 685 lives were lost and it took months to recover despite hundreds of Depression era workers being sent to help. Such major tropical weather events are rare in the Northeast but the region can perhaps expect such an event every 150 years. Esteemed panelists Louis Uccellini and Lourdes Avilés covered all aspects of the storm and reviewed the forecast for the event and how current forecast capabilities might prevent such loss of life. The webinar was moderated by William E. Minsinger.
