AMS Weather Band Community and Citizen Science Symposium

We are excited to announce the AMS Weather Band's first Community and Citizen Science Symposium!

Please join us as a speaker or a participant for this two day, virtual event, that will showcase citizen and community science projects and programs related to weather and the atmospheric sciences. It will take place on Friday, January 21, and Saturday, January 22 12:00 - 5:00 ET.

Our goal with this event is to provide a valuable and unique experience for Weather Band members and friends, while also promoting and celebrating the important role that community and citizen science play in the atmospheric sciences.

We hope you'll walk away with at least a few of the following experiences:

  • Connect to larger citizen and community science initiatives
  • Find new networking opportunities
  • Learn from fellow citizen and community scientists
  • Identify pathways and support for citizen and community scientists to participate in atmospheric science and research activities
  • Get inspired by the atmospheric sciences
Ready to Get Involved?

Submit a proposal to be a speaker! We are looking for community and citizen scientists to be speakers as well as professional practitioners and researchers that are supporting community scientists and/or working with citizen science data. Please note that there are no fees associated with this event, either for speakers or attendees. We will do our best to work with any technological needs of speakers. All speaker submissions are due by November 19.

Amateur Enthusiast, Community, and Citizen Scientists

Are you a weather observer? Are you working on weather related projects for yourself or your community? We want you to be a speaker!

We are looking for community and citizen scientists to create short presentations (5-10 minutes) about projects they are working on or have completed related to weather; and what impact these projects have had or are having. This could mean observations of local weather, how you’re collecting and using data from your local weather station, weather history you’re researching, or severe weather impacts and recovery in your local community.

Professional Practitioners and Researchers

Are you working with data from citizen scientists, supporting community science projects or studying citizen or community scientists? We want you to be a speaker!

We are looking for professional practitioners and researchers to create short presentations (5-10 minutes) about projects they are working on or have completed that use citizen science data, incorporate community science, or involve citizen or community science in some way. This could involve mapping wildfire smoke with citizen air quality data, using CoCoRaHS data for drought monitoring, or identifying severe weather impacts through community reporting
