Are you working with data from citizen scientists, supporting community science projects or studying citizen or community scientists? We want you to be a speaker at the AMS Weather Band's first Community and Citizen Science Symposium!

We are looking for speakers to create short presentations (5-10 minutes) about projects they are working on or have completed that use citizen science data, incorporate community science, or involve citizen or community science in some way. Examples include:

  • Community led heat monitoring
  • Incorporating citizen air quality monitoring into smoke prediction models
  • Building a weather spotting course
  • Using CoCoRaHS data for drought monitoring
  • Identifying severe weather impacts through community reporting

This is a friendly, informal environment and we are looking for a variety of projects that will show the broad range and use of citizen and community science.

  • If you’re worried about your schedule, presentations can be pre-recorded, and these recording sessions can be scheduled at your convenience. They will then premiere as part of the Community and Citizen Science Symposium on January 21, 2022.
  • Images and visual aids such as Power Point slides are highly encouraged, but not required.
  • There is no fee associated with this symposium for either speakers or attendees.

To let us know that you are interested in being a speaker, please fill out this form by November 19, 2021. Space is limited, so please let us know that you’d like to participate as soon as possible. We will contact you to discuss your project, presentation, and what the next steps might be.

Please reach out to Tiernan Doyle, [email protected] with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you!
